Do You Have a Slave Mentality?

I heard my Pastor preaching one day about "Fighting at the Kingdom level" but one thing he said, stuck out and made me think...he asked the question, "Do you have a slave mentality?"

My thoughts went in so many directions from that one question. It took me to Proverbs 5:22 which states, An evil man is held captive by his own sins; they are ropes that catch and hold him. The King James version states in this manner, His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and shall be holden with the cords of his sins. Either way it is said, we can come the conclusion that you have control over what binds you. You are holding yourself in restraints that are made by you.

So let me ask again, "Do you have a slave mentality?". There are so many individuals with one kind of addiction or another. Funny how society has an excuse for everything we do, isn't it? For example, If someone is just mad all the time, they have anger management problems, right? If someone lives to eat instead of eating to live society calls it an eating disorder. Society calls everything in life a disorder or an addiction. Now we have people of the Christian faith stating that they have an addiction or a disorder...I could go on and on and probably make a lot of people mad but we can all agree that those "disorders" or "addictions" actually have you captive.

These things have you captive because you LOST CONTROL. Let me take you back to the word again, Proverbs 5:21-23 For the Lord sees clearly what a man does, examining every path he takes. An evil man is held captive by his own sins; they are ropes that catch and hold him. He will die for lack of self-control; he will be lost because of his INCREDIBLE FOLLY. Let's break down INCREDIBLE FOLLY. Folly by definitions means the state or quality of being foolish; lack of understanding or sense. Now let's look at the definition of Incredible (I know you know, but let's just look anyway), Incredible means so extraordinary as to seem impossible....WOW. You have done yourself an injustice of being EXTRAORDINARILY FOOLISH.

Now you see from the word how you have done this to yourself so why do we manage to blame others. "This is how I grew up", "Well it started with my mother", "My father was an alcoholic" or "I saw my father abuse my mother"...that's why I do it. My brothers and sisters, please open your eyes to see that these are all excuses for you to be bound by your own chains given to you by the enemy. And all the devil had to say was, "here you go, take your chains. I had them custom made for you".

An author by the name of Butler Shafer said that "a slave comes and waits for someone to free them". Another author put it so eloquently saying: They have been under the whip so long that they are simply unable to conceive of what it means to be free.(We are talking slave mentality now, your mental thoughts so stay with me). Who are you waiting on if you have bound yourself, you not only bound yourself but you also hold the whip! How can even the Holy Spirit enter in your mind and your heart if you are gagged and bound. Let go of the ropes!!

Let me help you by saying just this. You became free when you asked God to save you. When you asked God to come into your heart and create in you a clean heart confessing your sins, you became free at that moment. So why, if you are free do you still have shackles on your feet? Why are your hands bound together and why is the gag in your mouth? Only you hold the key to your deliverance, you are still holding the ropes all you have to do is let go.
